    Rain, Rain Go Away

    Thursday, May 8, 2008, 02:13 PM [General]

Well not really I know we need the rain and will wish for more in the dry summer but when it rains I can not go ride on the bike trail.  To get the same amount of exercise I have to ride one hour on my seated stepper.  This is so boring, the scenery doesn't change and I try to watch TV but it is just not the same.

My dogs get depressed if they do not get to go for their walk, you do not want to be around a depressed doberman and jack russell, it is not fun.

Hopefully tomorrow the sun will shine and we can all get out to the bike trail.

    New Addition to House

    Tuesday, May 6, 2008, 08:38 PM [General]

Thirty years ago when we built our house it never occured to either of us that there might come a time when one or the other of us might have trouble climbing stairs,  Well that time has come, I can climb the stairs (all our bedrooms are upstairs) but it is more effort  than I like to put forward, in other words it is hard and it hurts.

With all this considered we decided to build an addition onto our house.  We are doing the construction ourselves with the help part time of our oldest grandson.  It is slow going, not nearly as fast as when we build the original house 30 years ago, of course we were 30 years younger then.   When it is completed our bedroom will be downstairs, along with a new sun room and extra large utility room.  With the new layout I will be able to navigate the entire downstairs when I am in my wheelchair.  I try to stay out of my chair as much as I can, but sometimes it is a necessity.

I will keep you posted on our progress.

    Dieting

    Friday, April 25, 2008, 04:25 PM [General]

Well today was weigh in day.  As ususal I lost 1 whole pound.  This is really getting old.  When I got sick in March of 2007 I weighed 200 pounds, at 5' 2" you might say there was more of me to love,  While in the hospital I lost 30 pounds, mostly because of the breathing tube for so long and then I just didn't feel like eating.  After I got out of rehab and got home for good, my husband and I decided it would be good for me to lose more weight to make it easier to walk on my new legs.  I have been dieting and exercising since August and have lost another 30 pounds.  It is so slow, a pound a week and I need to lose another 20 pounds.  I know that the slow loss is better but I want it now.

Enough poor me, the up side of this is I have developed a new appreciation for cooking.  I have started collecting diet and low carb recipes and have found a whole new world of foods.  I have found that with a little planning and thought we are eating better than we ever have and I'm not talking about rabbit food, so once again I have found the up side, eventhough I would still like to have a big mac, fries, and a chocolate shake.

Small victory, no make that a large victory

    Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 08:52 PM [General]

Today I mowed my yard.  I'm sure about a million people mowed their lawn today, but I mowed without legs!  This was a major thing for me.  I could not have done it without the help of my wonderful mechanically talented husband.  He modified my mower to use all hand controls rather than having to push the clutch with your foot.  It works beautifully.  Check out my video titled First Mowing.

This just goes to show that with a little help, almost all things are possible.

    Eventful day

    Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 06:10 PM [General]

Today was an eventfull day.  It started as usual. morning exercises then to the bike trail for our ride/walk.  This went well. the dogs had a great time and the weather was perfect.  We got home had lunch and then the fun began.  We do not have a land line phone, only two cell phones.  I was going to go to the grocery store when my husband discovered that he did not have his cell phone.  We knew he had it on the bike trail so we jumped in the truck and headed back to the bike trail, I got on my bike and started down the trail calling his  phone, about a mile down the trail I heard his phone ringing.  I waited for my husband to catch up and he had to go down almost into the creek, another inch and the phone would have been toast.  Lucky for us.  I say lucky as about this time a huge thunderstorm came out of nowhere and we just made it back to the truck before the sky opened up.

I finally made it to the grocery store in the pouring rain.  Now the sun is out.  The saying in Arkansas is that if you don't like the weather stick around a few minutes and it will change.
