    Olympic season

Sunday, February 14, 2010, 04:05 PM EST [General]

I love the Olympics. I watch as many games as possible. But I'm really looking forward to the Paralympic games. Does anyone know if and where the Paralymics will be broadcast?

I am so embarrassed. I haven’t written in such a long time. I’m so sorry for my negligence. I guess its because there hasn’t been any big changes recently. That has been a good thing, but also a not so good thing. For awhile I have been confined to special beds to reduce any pressure areas and allow a pressure wound to heal. The experience has left me with two lessons, First, that eating while laying down is not only awkward and messy it’s painstakingly slow and eventually makes your bed uncomfortable with crumbs and gummie bears ( a nurse, yesterday, called me “the princess and the gummie bear” when she helped  to change my sheets and found a few hiding in the fold). Secondly, laying in bed for such a long time has made me more appreciate ceilings. From what I can tell it seems that this large indoor surface, in any room, is mostly neglected and totally bare of any kind of entertaining design or decoration. The fact is, that this observation can be only appreciated really by people of the horizontal position, which include patients, immobilized criminals, dead people, and  Michelangelo,

Anyway, as each day passes that means one more day closer to someday when I will be able to forget about ceilings again and visit more rooms. It will happen, someday. Until then  I guess I can use this time to ponder and work on  solving the world’s problems.

P.S.I hope that the above doesn’t make any one think that I’m in anyway unhappy, unhealthy , or upset. The truth is that I have had so many great visitors , including both family and friends,  with so many fun things to do, I have had no time to be distressed  about any part of my recumbence. I am so grateful for them and their kindness. Thank you so much for making everything more then bearable. The distraction is very appreciated.

P.P.S. I forgot to include an event that MORE than deserves its own post script. I was so lucky to have the special privilege and challenge to judge a quilt contest. Project Linus is a wonderful organization that creates security blankets for children going through traumatic experiences, Whether  they and or their family is being stressed due to, tragedy, accident, sickness, or disaster, Project Linus offers children special comfort through handmade blankets that are used to offer a tangible reassurance to the kids.

I had heard about some of these blankets, and I’ve always been an admirer of quilting and the beautiful talent that I will never have, so I jumped at the offer to be a judge for their annual quilt competition. I didn’t know though how difficult it would turn out to be! I was flabbergasted by each and every quilt, the designs shapes, color, and  creativity, were all superb! This made my job difficult because I knew each of these pieces of art were made with the very best intentions. I want to thank all the competitors along with the rest of the participators for the opportunity to enjoy their creations. Thank you, and I know that the children that eventually get these blankes will find them  an invaluable gift of relief.
