it's been a while since i've posted and would appreciate some help with questions

Sunday, June 28, 2009, 04:05 PM EST [General]

it's been a while  since i posted.  i originally joined because i was facing an "elective" amputation.

i've been back to work for about a year and a half ago.  i  am scheduled to have an ankle replacement this Wednesday.  there is a 15% failure rate, after that the amputation wont be elective.  its not something i am opposed to, just so many unknowns ~ and that's what makes it so scary.

my biggest fear is not being able to afford a prosthetic.   (especially the second or third time; i'm 46 y/o) after my car accident i SHOULD have applied for SSD and didn't ( i was out of work for 2 1/2 years.  this operation (ankle replacement) i am expeced to be out between 2 - 5 months.

i have a (second) part time job as a cashier and was talking to someone who was an amputee , he told me Medicare pays for all of his prosthetic .

I work for the dept of welfare and the only way you get Medical assit is low income OR considered disabled by Social security (even then you can make too much money)

i contacted a SSD lawyer and was told i had to be out of work a year to be considered disabled. even though the "first" decision only takes 5 moths, i know  Social security denies almost everyone the first time.  i can't be off for more than 5 months.

does anyone anyone have any help with SSA  or my concern about not being able to afford future prosthetics?

    thanks,

    cheryl

    Little Grass Hut

Wednesday, November 21, 2007, 08:24 PM EST [General]

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed upon a small, uninhabited island.  He prayed feverishly for GOD to rescue him, and everyday he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.  Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him self from the elements and to store his few possessions.

One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames with smoke rolling up to the sky.  The worst had happened!  Everything was lost!  He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger.  GOD, how could you do this to me?" he cried.

Early the next day he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island.  It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers.

"We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

    Moral of the story:

It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because GOD is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain, and suffering.

Remember that, the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground.  It just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of GOD.

You May Want To Consider Passing This On, Because You Never Know Who Feels Like Their Hut Is On Fire Today.
