    Volunteers wanted for training video

    Thursday, December 13, 2007, 10:03 AM [General]

I am looking for any amputees of any type who would like to volunteer for a training video I am trying to put together concerning limb issues and proper limb care. I can't afford to pay anyone, but we would take you out to lunch as a thank you and you would receive a couple of free copies of the completed DVD as well.

I am located in Manchester, NH and it would be filmed here at Next Step O & P. The owners have agreed to allow me to use their facility and one or both of the owners will be in the video offering their expert in patient management and issues facing us in general. I am going to try and include such topics as how to get up when you have fallen and are alone, proper hygiene and decontamination of the limb, liner, and sleeves, which many of us wear. How to deal and avoid certain issues with pain. We will attempt to be as comprehensive as possible with the time constraints we will have during production.

If you are having any issues such as sores. cysts, infections, skin problems of any kind on your limbs, you would be welcome to participate. You can have any type of amputation and children would also be welcome. This company is well known for their work with children in the field of orthotics and prosthetics. You would also receive our products as a gift for your help.

My company web site is www.whitemountainnaturals.com and I would ask you to go there simply to read about us and our mission. We are hoping to offer this video to many O & P offices around the country and on our web site at minimal cost to help our fellow amputees learn the how to's and how not to's of taking care of their residual limbs.

Our company came into existence to help amputees and diabetics after I lost my leg to MRSA in 2004, you can see pictures of my legs on my site. Our company was formed in March of 2007 with its only purpose being to help folks avoid as many issues as possible being a diabetic or amputee with skin care issues and problems facing each of us.

Your help would be appreciated and welcomed. So if you are in the Manchester, NH area or don't mind a little trip, then call me at 603-606-2497 and we can talk. I am trying to get this done by early January and I would be honored if you were to participate.

A Wish for a Wonderful Christmas

    Thursday, December 13, 2007, 09:34 AM [General]

I would like to wish all of you a very wonderful Christmas with your family and friends. For many of us it will be a time of great family celebration and time of giving, for others there may not be this type of significance and that is fine also, of course. But for some of us it will be a time of spiritual reflection and celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. I am grateful that He came 2,000 years ago and gave His life to save me. I know many do not agree with this and that is fine, I am not trying to cause offense or resentment because no matter how you look at it, it was started because of Him.

Have a wonderful Christmas season and a great new year...

    What If?

    Saturday, December 1, 2007, 10:16 AM [General]

What would happen if by some chance your life ended today? For some of us this could be a reality because of the health problems we face, or if by some fluke we were to have a serious accident, heart attack or cancer. If there were only two choices, Heaven or Hell, where would you go and why? What would you base your answer on?

These questions are not meant to cause controversy, but rather to find out where we think we will end up and hopefully find the truth of the matter. Life is a very fragile affair and if not taken seriously certain events and consequences cannot be changed after the fact. We have choices that need to be made this side of death and the consequences of procrastinating can have eternal repercussions.

    Surgery Cancelled

    Monday, November 12, 2007, 07:53 PM [General]

I want to thank everyone for your prayers and kind words, but my surgery was cancelled this morning. My sugars were a little too high so we will have to reschedule for about two weeks. Once they are under a little more control there should be no complications. Please keep your prayers on hold until the right time. Obviously, it was not the Lords will for the operation to happen today, perhaps He prevented something from going wrong by allowing it to be cancelled.

    Again...Thanks

    Surgery

    Thursday, November 8, 2007, 09:41 AM [General]

I am going into the hospital on Monday November 12th and if there is anyone out there who prays, I would appreciate a kind word to the Lord on my behalf. They will be doing a major vein resection and removal on my good leg(?) to try and keep it around a few more years. The surgery will take 2-2 1/2 hours if there are no complications and I will be able to go home the same day. I will be down for 3-4 weeks of healing time. This is suppose to be very painful and since they have to remove a major vein in the lower leg, well, there is a good possibility I will have nerve damage.

I try my best to look at these things as little bumps on life's road, they always make you stronger in the end if they are accepted with the right attitude. The Lord never promised us an easy life without trials and testings. These times in our lives can hopefully be used to show others that faith is real and not a fiction, that hope is essential, read Hebrews 11:1 and you will see what I mean. God doesn't cause these trials in our lives, but He often lets them happen to try and bring us into a lasting and trusting relationship with Him. What has gotten me through almost 11 years of great pain and suffering is the fact that I believe in my heart that a loving God cares for me and wants me to understand this simple fact. Often we miss this part in understanding His dealings with us, usually because of our own pride and reluctance to accept His will for our lives, we tend to reject and often blame Him for our circumstances. Instead we should embrace what He has allowed and accept the life He has allowed us to live. In the book of Job it says this:

Job 5:7  Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

We are never guaranteed a free ride and it shouldn't be so. You have to understand that God's attributes consist of more than just love. There is mercy, grace, forgiveness, love, patience, compassion, and the list could go on. There is judgment, chastisement, and justice as well. Knowing all that can be learned of Him through the Bible will give great comfort during these times to those seeking answers as to how to deal with the trials of life. I would love to enter into any discussion about these issues for anyone honestly looking for the peace they need to deal with theses issues. I do not and will not enter into pointless discussions or debates about this that are only designed to bring controversy and debate. God is not debatable, He is real and does not need arguments to prove He is. Creation has proven this beyond a doubt and His Holy Scriptures (King James Bible) bare this out.

    Thanks...Evangelist Dave Harper
