Some pictures of my lovely leg!

Don't think I didn't try to learn.  I went to PT for about 4 months.  After 4 months of going nowhere, I decided it was not for me.  I can do things easier on crutches than I can with the leg on.  You can't even bend over with that thing jabbing you in the ribs!

For those of you who follow my blogs, I got UGGS today.  Boots and flip flops (yes, they make flip flops).  I got them really cheap at the Nordstrom Rack.  Hooray!  Finally!  I also got another pair of shoes too.  Hee Hee.

Oh, while I was trying them on, I said to a woman who was also trying shoes on, "I feel like these make my feet look big".  Then she says, "What size are your feet?".  We both laughed.

WOW, yeah, I really can see how that would be uncomfortable and burdensome. OUCH!

As for shoes, I always have to try on both shoes. The one for my good foot is to see how it fits and feels, obviously. But I also need to try the one for the prosthesis because I need to see how it is to walk on it. Some shoes are comfortable on my good foot, but can really screw my gait if it doesn't roll over nicely on the other leg. Dress shoes are a nightmare to buy because they all have heals. Heals are bad. BAD BAD BAD!! My current dress shoes I've had for 10 years now. I have taken very good care of them because it took me so long to find. But now the soles are worn and I need new ones. I am dreading having to find a new pair.

It's a pretty leg, even if you don't use it. Mine is all beat up and dyed blue from my jeans. I am getting really bored with winter because my shoe options are either one of my two pairs of sneakers or boots. I miss all my little canvas flats.

    Melissa,
I am ever so sorry your new leg is sooo uncomfortable for you, not good. There must be some one some where which can fit you better and in a way which allows you to wear it and use it for it's real purpose, not just to have it stand alone by it self, and have you be on your crutches. My heart goes out to you in many ways and I send you warm hugs of encouragement. I appreciate you sharing, lean on us for help, we all stand together in this, ok.
    Hugs,

I feel funny commenting on my own blog, but here goes:

My leg fits REALLY well, my guy did an amazing job making it. The problem lies in walking on a prosthesis that replaces THREE joints. It is not an easy task. It is downright scary to take a step. I feel more mobile walking on my crutches alone. I get around much faster and with much more ease.

Don't feel sorry for me (Don). I don't feel bad about this at all. I am perfectly happy on crutches. I really don't think there is anything that I can't do!

And to Paul (who posted on my last blog), there is NOTHING that I cannot do because I am not wearing that leg. That leg hampers me more than it helps. What "opportunities" do you think wearing the leg will "open up for me". I'd love to have some more opportunities. LOL. And not minimize anyone's suffering, but you CANNOT compare learning to walk with a below knee prosthetic to learning to walk with a hip disarticulation prosthetic. Don't think I didn't try to learn. I certainly did. If you want to learn more about me, read my earlier blogs.

OK People! Thanks to you all for reading and commenting. Just felt I needed to do a little clarifying from some of the comments I received and also some of my private messages that I received after posting this.

    :)
