I've been an amputee for almost 22 years. I recently had some reconstructive surgery on my stump and have been laid up for 6 months. I've been in the process of getting fit for a new leg and my prosthetist is pushing me to wear the C-leg. I know there are other high tech knees out there, and don't understand why he won't even consider the alternatives. I'm trialing the c-leg right now. I'm not thrilled to be honest. I used to use a Mauch, but always had it in free swing because I hated the hydraulics. I also used to have a heel adjustable foot. I am limited to one foot with the c-leg. ONE. I'm so ticked about it. I don't think my stump is super long, but no other foot will work apparently because there's not enough room. I've got a part that allows me to rotate me knee, which I'll never part with. That also takes up space. I use a pin system. That takes up space. I've got the torsion control part. I like it, but that, too takes up space. My problems are this:
My prosthesis is too long.
My socket rotates on me.
I want a variety of feet to choose from.
I want a variety of computerized knees to choose from.
I can't use a suction socket.
Anyone have some ideas on how to overcome these issues? Any tips on which knees you'd recommend? Is the C-leg "all that"? Is the Rheo not as long? I'd appreciate some tips from our wonderful amputee community.
