My name is John and I am an old Air Force Retiree. I enlisted in the Air Force in 1960 and in 1962 I was involved in a car accident just outside Rapid City, South Dakota. As a result my right leg had to be amputated below the knee. I had just over 2 years active service at the time and was married with a young daughter(4days). I spent 3 months in the Ellsworth AFB, SD and was transferred to Wilford Hall Hospital in San Antonio, TX. I was fitted with a artifical leg spent 2 weeks learning how to walk on it. I was then sent home on leave for 2 weeks and returned to active duty. I spent the next 18 years on active duty and retired as a MSgt(E7) in 1980. My career included a tour in Viet Nam(1970-71)
I never met anyone while on active duty that also had a artifical limb. I am wondering if anyone out there served on active duty with an artifical lib during that time period (1960 - 1980).
