    Greetings!

My name is Tamera, and although I not an amputee, I do have a fair amount of experience with disabilities. When I was 26 years old, I had an accident at work, and 3 surgeries later, I just found out that I am a candidate (real meaning guinea pig) for an implanted device. However, that's not the real reason I decided to join this wonderful site! I am a nurse, and I am currently working on my Master's. I am also a Legal Nurse Consultant, and I found this website while researching prosthetics for a client I am working with. I have observed first hand the changes that people undergo when they attend support groups. I certainly hope that I will be able to stay in touch with this group, and possibly even ask some personal questions about the best ankle joints or socks or the like!

Hi Tamera: After my amputation on Oct.18/07 of my right ankle I will be glad to answer any questions you may have for me...personal or otherwise. Good Luck in your implanted device if it happens. It could be a really good thing.

    Hi Tamera,
I'm sorry I can't answer anything related to ankle joints (I'm a 5 toe amp, L foot), but I am a nursing student currently. I'm in the 2 year program (part time) and am currently in 3 semester. Good luck with your Masters. Eventually, that is what I will be doing.
I think the books your reading right now sound as good as the ones I'm being tortured with: Med Surg Nursing, Peds, and of course we can't forget the never ending back and forth with the Pharm book.
My oldest has hypoplastic left heart syndrome so we understand a little of what you are striving for. The more experts we have to help us, the better. Good luck in your studies. I love the guinea pig comment:)

    Hi Tamera,
Glad that you are here and I am hoping that with all of us or some of us we can answer some questions.
I have been a BK for two years now and am finally running again. It was what I had wanted to do for six years and do it well with no pain.
I also work as a Certified Veterinary Technician in the Oncology ward at the University of Wisconsin Veterinary Teaching Hospital. I deal with hospice care patients every day along with that of course is death and grief.
I am sorry for the loss of your service dog. What was her name? I have two terriers of my own and a Mainecoon cat. I adore them each. They are our kids.
Any questions go ahead and ask. I think of everyday as a learning experience with liners, socks, comfort, blisters, rubbing spots, prosthetics, ect. So nothing shocks me and I am not shy.
    Be well,

    Lisa
