    Double arm transplant

    Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 07:11 AM [General]

Check out this photo of a guy in Germany who had two arms attached to his stumps!  No joke!  This is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard of.

    Here's an article about it:

What do you think?  Is this the future for all amputees?  Is this something we should all want?

I think we should all want anything that improves our life, and improves mobility. I cannot imagine how a leg would work, I don't think it would be for everybody.

I saw that on CNN...I think it's cool. I am not sure how feasible it would be, but advancements in Medicine are incredible.

I suppose if I were in his position, I might have tried this. Despite our acceptance of our individual situations, I think many amputees occasionally think of what it would be like to have a limb replaced. In the case of a leg, I am not sure that I would go through this process, as my prosthesis really gives me no trouble and I am able to do just about everything I want to. With a transplanted leg, I imagine there would be no guarantee as to whether it could support the kind of weight loads and stresses that I place on my prosthetic limb. Other medical complications could occur and restoration of the nerves, etc., would be a long process. I'm just not sure I would want to deal with all of that.

This is definitely a future for amputees but then, no one knows exactly the health risks this might lead to.

If asked, I would say yes. I would do it in a heartbeat.
