Today, March 1, 2010, marks the day that forever changed my life. It was on this very day in 2006 that a bullet tore through my left upper thigh and exited my calf. The path that the bullet traveled was the same place my femoral artery could be found. Needless to say the artery was mangled beyond repair and the leg had to be amputated above the knee two days later on March 3rd….. On this day, the first day of March I celebrate life. I should have died that night, but our dear Lord didn’t want me to come home yet. He left me here to be a father, a husband, a son, a brother, and a friend. Today is my yearly reminder to think about the things that really matter in life. Help me celebrate today by doing the little things that show people who you are. We are the children of God. So, hug and hold your children, get your spouse a flower, hold the door for a stranger, tell someone how much you love them, because it could all be gone tomorrow.

AMEN.. You are a man of God. We are His children as you said. You have a purpose here our Lord wants you to fulfill. I thank Him everyday for people like you. You're an inspiration to us all, John. God bless. Your brother in Christ, Ben. Ben |

Agreed, John. Being an amputee is only one element of many that makes us who we are. It is not our sole defining factor. Happy Celebration of Life! Donna |

Being alive is pretty good, isn't it? Glad you're doing well enough to celebrate not dying. Glad you're still here. Gives you a whole new perspective on life. |

I feel for you brother. The anniversary of my injury is March 6. My ampuversary is April 5. Mine happened by a 12-gauge shotgun through the heel. You are only a handful of amps I've met who have lost their legs to guns.
