Greetings and Hello all my friends and soon to be friends.
Had two wonderful events today. The first event was that the surgeon said I could drive if I wanted to with no restrictions. Sooooo I DROVE!!!!! It feels different cause where I could use my left leg for a brace and support, I cannot do that now. But that will change in the coming weeks when I will be moving around on my prosthesis. But I DROVE!!!!!! First time since I drove my wife and myself to the emergency room on July 15th.
The second big event is that the surgeon said my wound is almost healed and in 2 weeks I should be ready to start putting weight on my leg. Woooohoooo!!!!!!!! I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it isn't the headlights of an oncoming train. :D
Hello all, I am a relatively new amputee. I had a LBK amputation just this past July due to complications from diabetes. Hope to talk to as many as I can so we can all help each other through all this and learn from each other.
Like others here I am pretty new to all this. My BKA of my left leg happened just this past July. I am pretty upbeat about it. When you're faced with the decision lose the foot or lose your life, you start asking the doc where the hacksaw is.
I have my days of being down and self pity party member, but luckly those days are very few and very far between. My basic way of looking at it is if I am NORTH of the grass I am doing good and enjoying it. It also helps having a wife that knows when to push me, when to just leave me alone and when to threaten to beat the crap out of me if I need it. :)
And for some even better news, I just got my first prosthetic this week. The socket is rather lose in places. Seems my leg has shrunk some since they did the initial measurments. The prosthetisist said this was normal and to just wear the leg to get used to it. I am not allowed to put any weight on it yet due to my wound is still healing. But soon enough I will be up and moving again. My goal right now is to be up and moving with little support by Christmas.
Well this it for the moment. Need to get ready for the weekly nurse visit and put my leg on for a little while.
