About Me Here's how the story of my new life begins. On November 16, 2007 I had been at the Salvation Army volunteering for their Christmas program, came home and got out of my car to get the mail. I don't remember anything for the next 6 days. When I woke up I was at MCV Hospital in Richmond VA. I had a compound fracture on the right leg, bilateral upper arm fractures, both lower bones on the right arm broken and they had amputated my left leg. My family explained that I had been hit by a young man that was going 57 MPH in a 45 zone. All I can say is God is good because I am still here to talk about it.

It is hard to believe that it has been a year since my accident.  I have moved on and made the best of the situation.  I don't remember anything from the accident so it is not like I have any horrible dreams or memories.  I have completely returned to doing all the things that I did and drive my family crazy becuase I refuse to slow down.

Hope everyone who reads has a great week.  Sending smiles and hugs to anyone who need them. ;o)

Make a Difference - Get Involved

    Monday, September 29, 2008, 02:15 PM [General]

I have to brag a little.  This past weekend I helped co-chair a fundraiser for a young lady with Cystic Fibrosis.  We raised almost $4000.00 in her honor to help her receive the necessary medical treatment.  We had a custom rods and car show, silent auction and bake sale.  I will post pictures as they come in.

My family thought I was nuts when I told them that I was getting involved in this project but I tell you getting back to helping others has made me feel so much better.  I encourage everyone out there to take a few minutes and help someone else.  It will raise your spirits and make you realize that you must live for the day because you never know what tomorrow will bring.

    Have a great week everyone.

    Dear Lisa,
Thank you...I will ask my pro about it..I just noticed this on most amputees, and it looked nice...but wrapping my stump can be a bit inconvenient as I live in a tropical country..but it's good to have options.

    Take Care,
    Elaine

hi thanks for the comment on my blog. It's nice to have a little nosy on everyone's pages and get a tiny insight into people's lives.

Well reguarding your blog on interesting jobs mine is very boring as I work at an opticians. However, I'm currently looking for a new job so maybe it's time for something more exciting!

    Hi Lisa,
Thanks for writing...wow, you really are shrinking fast...I feel like the curving out is an alignment problem also..I think I am going back to Hanger (a different one) and maybe they can fix it...along with the limp...

You asked how it stays on...I suppose you are talking about the pin at the bottom of my liner that goes in the socket? See..I'm not very informed about all of this..I'm actually pretty intelligent, but when I try to research all of this on the internet, there is too much confusing information...I think my prost. should have told me more, but then again, I didn't ask too many questions--maybe this time I will know more questions to ask...thanks again for writing, your puppy is a cutie...write anytime!! Have a Blessed Day!!!! Trish

    Lisa,

Thank you so much for you words of encouragement. You have such a gift for words...thank you.

I have since written a letter to the corporation, talked to the manager and though she was sincerely apologetic and offered to give me a makeover whenever (free of charge) my sentiment hasn't gone away. And a make over any other day isn't as special as your anniversary day! I don't know what really I expect them to do aside from apologize...but I would like to see something from them....any ideas?!?
