    Crazy Jobs

    Monday, July 28, 2008, 12:55 PM [General]

Just wondering am I the going nuts or do I have one of the craziest, most unheard of jobs around.  I know what kind of job could that be.   Now don't laugh like everyone else that I meet.   I am a live fish sales person.  No I don't work in a pet store, I actually sell live fish for food consumption.  We have farms on the east coast where we farm raise tilapia and sell them in the ethnic markets.  What other crazy, different or fun jobs did people return to after their amputation?

Lets have some fun.  It is Monday and none of us really want to be at work anyway.  Post your resonse in the comments sections after a week or so maybe we will vote on whose job we would most like to have.

I work as a Producer / Project Officer for the Naval Media Center, in Washington, DC. I mostly produce "Command Information" spots (commercials) for the Navy to use for TV programming on Armed Forces Network, Direct To Sailor, and the Pentagon Channel, since the regular, state-side commercials are not permitted to be aired by the overseas "host" nations, like Japan or Korea. I just finished a series of "spots" addressing summer activity safety, and also a naval heritage spot about the story behind the name of the USS Mason. I also do training videos for the Navy. As a producer, I oversee all facets of a production, do the project budget and contracting requirement paperwork, and monitor the project progress. I just got back from 2 weeks in San Diego, to do 3 different training videos for the Naval School of Health Sciences. In September, I'll be on the road to Camp Pendleton, CA, and Naval Trainig Center, Great Lakes. I can still do what needs to be done, even with a missing leg, and I really enjoy my job.

Well, I was nine when I had my amputation, so the only thing I returned to was school. But I'm now twenty and am coming up on my one year anniversary working at a Pet Resort. It's exactly what it sounds like, a hotel/spa where we pamper dogs and cats while their parents (owners) are away on business, vacation, or just at work for the day. It's my dream job, and I absolutely love it!

I lost my leg when I was 12, so all my jobs have been done legless. I've worked at three different summer camps, Tower Records, Hot Topic, YMCA after school programs, and now Target for the second time. The only amputee-related downside to retail is having to be on my feet for hours. There are a lot of unrelated downsides and very few upsides to working at Target right now, but I needed a job.
