    LEG Amputee from NYC

    Had bone cancer in 1987 as a result, I had my BK right leg amputated and undergone chemotherapy. I live in NYC born and raised with parents form carribean.

     

    I have been shy to wear shorts . I wore shorts at neighborhood gym but stopped. After going to my parents country that I decided to wear shorts in the daytime outside!!. People stared but I felt special and confident . I plan on buying more relaxed fit shorts for this summer.

    Hey Marc,

    Yeah, I guess I really lucked out in the spouse department. She has been great with the whole amputation/recovery process.

    I wear shorts in the summer, also. I was a bit self-conscious at first, but then I got used to the looks people give me when they see I'm an amputee. I got to the point that I figure it's not my problem what other people think.

    Thank you Marc. That was pretty kind. I guess that life is just requiring us to be strong. One of the things I am working on now to prepare for summer and the courage and ability to (hopefully) wear shorts with a bit of comfort is humor. I am having Betty Boop put on my new leg and designing my own shirts with amputee humor. My thought are that his will help me to take things a bit light hearted this summer. Well, have a great day.

    yeah i know about garage costs. two of my cousins r in NYC. one at NYU and the other at sum med skool...but they pay more for their garage than i do for my house in Louisiana
