    I'm moving to Canada (Vancouver)

Tuesday, June 24, 2008, 06:04 PM GMT [General]

    Hi Everyone.

Yes it's me again asking for more help. I'm moving to Canada (Vancouver) in about 6 weeks. I thought I had about 10 to 12 weeks to sort all this but my boss is getting someone new in sooner.

I'm just looking for information this time. I'm not asking to stay with anyone (Thanks to those in America who offered). All I really need to know is where are the best places to look for work? Does anyone know of good cheap accommodation? I've lived in some pretty bad places before so I'm not a fussy person.

I want to do this on my own as the buzz you get when you come out of the blood, sweat & tears on the other side is fantastic. But in saying that I can never be given to much information. Also is there anyone on this site that lives in Vancouver? It would be great to meet people & make some friends. This is going to be my 4th country I'm moving to & it can be a bit lonely to start with. So if there is anyone that would be up for meeting for coffee or showing me the city that would be great.

I hope I haven't offended anyone by posting this as it's not about my arm. But desperate times call for desperate measures.

    Thanks everyone.

    Sarah

    To All you Americans

Thursday, April 24, 2008, 04:00 PM GMT [General]

I need your help. I've come up with the craziest idea ever. It may not work but I'll give it a go & see what happens. I'll start off by saying I'm still in Ireland. I'm living & working in a very small town. I'm really starting to feel like I'm a bird that doesn't have it's wings clipped but is stuck in a very small cage. I just want to fly & no one else is going to do it for me I need to do it myself. I'm going to be going to Vancouver Canada on a working/holiday visa. I would like to do nannying there but they are telling me I need to wait till the end August as jobs are thin over the summer holidays.

So here's the crazy idea. I thought why not travel America for a couple of months leading up to it. I lived there for a year & loved it. I managed to see a lot of it but I want to see more. So here's where you guys come in. Is there anyone out there that would have a spare bed, couch, floor, shed or anything that I could stay on for 2 days or 2 weeks? I've meet some really great people on this site & it would be wonderful to meet some of you in person. I don't have a lot of money but I've been brought up to take nothing for free. I would be prepared to do odd jobs & help out to earn my keep. I'm a very independent person so I wouldn't take up a lot of your time as I've never found it any trouble to get myself around places. I realise it's asking a lot to have a stranger turn up on your door step. And I'm taking the same risk but I'll always have a back up plan (or 2).

The other thing I wanted to ask is you may not be able to have me stay but you may have ideas for me. Please feel free to advise. For example I know there used to be a thing with Greyhound $99 for 99 days. I've been on there website & can't find it. I tried calling but couldn't get anywhere. I'm sure they must have something like that still just not sure how to find it. Of course any other ideas on how I can do things cheaply would be greatly appreciated.

One of the great things about this is I have a camcorder & camera. So it will be cool to do a diary of all this on the site.

If this is works & you people are prepared to take me on then the only thing stopping me is my job. I haven't told my boss yet cause I wanted to start with this. But if it goes ahead then I need to give a months notice. Even then if they don't find a replacement I will need to wait for that. So that does give the problem that I can't make any definite dates.

I don't know if this is a good idea or if I'm just plan stupid. But this crazy bird needs to get out of her cage spread her wrings & fly like she was born to do.

    Loving this site.

I'd like to put my one hand up & receive the award for being the Less than Four clown. Only I could delete my blog on my page. So here goes another one (see how long it takes me to delete this one).
Before I go any further I'd just like to say how much I'm loving this site & the great people on it. I find myself on it everyday now seeing who is new & reading all the incredible stories. It makes me feel so plain having been born without my arm. There are so many of you that are truly inspirational.
I've only been on the site for a few weeks but already feel I've made some friends for life. And I want to keep making more.
A little about me. As I said I was born without my lower left arm. I wear a prosthesis. I don't know what it's called but I put a photo of it on my page. I've never let it stop me from doing anything. In fact there is some things I've been able to do because of it. Sure I've been bullied & teased for it but I think it has made me a stronger person (too strong some will say).
At the age of 3 I started at the Riding for Disabled. I suppose I'd loved it so much because it was my get away (the horses don't care what you look like). By the age of 10 I moved on to Pony Club. I don't get to ride very much anymore but it's still a great passion of mine.
I am from New Zealand and for the past four years I've been travelling the world. I lived & worked in America for 13 months & loved it (if I could I'd still be living there). I got through 25 different states. I plan to do the rest one day.
After that I spent 2 & a half years in the UK. At the end of that I did a 49 day tour of Europe through 18 different countries. Through out all this I've become very passionate about photography (would love to do it professionally just not sure how).
I'm now living in a small town Dunmanway in Ireland. I'm a nanny
    for 2 beautiful girls 3 & 6.
I'm here to make friends & learn about all the interesting people on the site. If anyone ever wants to talk about anything or just say Hi please do so.
Hope to hear from you people soon.
    Sarah
