    More about me

    Friday, April 11, 2008, 01:17 PM [General]

Well I joined this site because a friend of mine in Great Britain sent me a link of a guy who has the same disease as me (Buergers) I wanted to send him a message, but I wasn't allowed to until I created my own account...that was the main reason, but than I've had a chance to look around at the site, and realise this is a community I should be a part of, I look forward to meeting new people who share some of the same struggles as I do. As we all know, people who aren't >4 just don't have a clue of what its like. Anyways, I'm here to find some new friends, and who knows maybe more.

..Anyone who reads this who has Buergers Disease, I want you to know you are not alone. I once felt alone, as in the only one with this horrable disease, but thats NOT the case. Since being diagnosed I created a website www.smokinggotme.com which goes into much more detail of my personal story with the disease. Since I've been running my website, I have been blessed in many many ways.  I found out Im not alone! I've had the pleasure of meating hundreads if not thousands of people just like me. Sure some might be older, or younger, or even female, or from different parts of the World! I didn't get to meet them in person, but thats ok, all over the interenet! My point is, if you have Buergers disease, PLEASE don't feel alone, there are thousands of us, afterall this disease affects 6 out of 10,000 (statistically). Sure we may be the only one in our own town or city, but thats ok! Thats what makes us special.

    Friday, April 11, 2008, 12:36 PM [General]

Bilateral BK; My legs are a suspension sleeve, total contact socket, with flex feet. With my legs on Im 6'1'' maybe 6'2''...without my legs 4'6'' (maybe, I've never checked my height without my legs). I had several (10+) socket changes. I've also went though 4 new leg systems.

Hey Brandon, I get you, Normal is a state of mind not a physical description. I cruised this site for a bit then joined. I discovered that it is very diverse here with amputees from all kinds of horrible yet interesting cases.Main thread is survivors. You are right about the people takin health for granted. I was one as well. I am a newbie in many ways regarding this ( no offense taken) my experience has been very sudden and abrupt so the long term effects are still lurking in the distance. I am encouraged by people (where i live anyway) that are kind and understanding when they see me coming on crutches but laugh a little when they try and hand something. It is certainly nothing that can be explained only experienced. Goood luck in the future.
