Hey guys...I got a new leg today, but I can't even walk on it!! I switched from a pin system to a suction...not sure...it doesn't have the vacuum, but it is a suction...anyway, my pro says, and I agree, that my knee is so weak that it moves around...a lot...when I try to walk...it did it on the other leg, but this one is cut lower, and it seems worse...anytone else have this? Anyone know if there are any exercises that strengthen the knee?? thanks!!!! trish
covered or naked??
Ha!! I knew that title would get you to read my post!! :) I have a cover on my leg so it will look more natural...but seems like a lot of pictures I see on here have no cover...I understand for the men, but what about the women?? thanks!! Have a Blessed Day!!
advice on bk prosthesis..can't seem to get it right...
Hey guys!!
I need some advice...please!! I've had my 2nd prosthesis since 2/08 and it looks like its time for a smaller one. I went to a prosthetist about 50 miles from my home the first time...I don't know what kind of leg I have...I used Hanger the first time, then moved away from there...my leg seems to bow out a bit...both prosthetists told me that my amputation was shorter than most and that's the way my leg turns and that there's not much they can do...I'm not sure if they know...anyway, I'm still walking with a pretty good limp...I got my first leg in October of -07 and I expected to be walking better than this...I was hoping for no limp...I don't know anyone with a bka besides on here...so can anyone tell me if all of this is normal? Is the bowing out normal? Do most of you guys walk without a limp? And I am trying to decide whether to go back to Hanger (there's one not too far from where I live now)...Any input???? Thanks, I would appreciate any advice at all.. Trish
Help??!! Just a couple of questions
I just got my 2nd socket this week...the old one was huge!! This one seems uncomfortable for now, but I'm sure it will get better...I just have a few questions for "experienced" amputees out there.. :)
My amputation is below the knee on left leg...my leg seems to want to "bow out". I constantly feel like I need to step on the outside edge of my foot to bring the leg in...does that make sense? Anybody else had that problem?
Also, anyone have any suggestions on covers to swim in? I want to go to the pool with my kids this summer, but don't want to remove my pros...is there anything out there that doesn't look like a trash bag?
And...will I ever get over this limp? I know I'm new, but I don't know any amputees(in person) and I hope I won't limp like this for the rest of my life...
Any advice, suggestions would be great!! Have a fantastic week!!
Trish
