How do your children view your amputation?

    Wednesday, September 14, 2011, 1:27 PM [General]

Donna had posted about the new film Dolphin Tale coming out... and it made me curious. How do your children and their friends view your amputation?  My children are 8 and 6 so don't know me any other way.  They even play with my old leg parts pretending they have  "fake legs".  Their friends casually ask me about it and I let them feel it etc.  I think it's healthy for my children and their friends to grow up seeing different people with different abilities.

    buying shoes

I just thought I'd pass this along...having an artificial foot as you know can pose a challenge when buying shoes.  I have to have straps on my sandles, prefer rubber soles... I discovered Zappos.com and LOVE them.  If I order shoes, I get them the next day!  Shipping is free both ways, so if you are not sure about the size, you can order 2 and send one back.  They have thousands of shoes to choose from, so you WILL find shoes that work. ...and their customer service is awesome!  Happy Shoe Shopping!

Thank you Jodi. That has been my battle cry from the start.

Hi Jodi I always keep my old leg for backup purposes. My older ones I donated to my clinic Hanger. The socket can't be recycled but the foot, pylon and knee can be. My guy donates to less fortunate in Mexico. Joaquin

Jodi, the film does such a great job of portraying the amputees as just regular people/dragon that they don't stand out as amputees--if that makes sense. I love the film. I can watch it over and over.
